چکیده

he TIMED onboard Autonomy System provides fault protection and safi ng of the spacecraft and performs a limited set of routine operations. The main requirements of fault protection and safi ng are to detect failed or improperly functioning spacecraft components and autonomously replace them in the operational confi guration with properly functioning counterparts. The high degree of autonomy onboard TIMED and in the ground system greatly reduces the required post-launch mission operations staff by ≈66% compared with nonautonomous operations. To lessen the inherent risk of so much automation, a careful development process is followed that includes reviews and ground testing. Using embedded processes designed into processors and components and applying rule-based logic, the concepts for reducing the size of the post-launch operations staff are realized by the TIMED Autonomy System.

On Coordination , Autonomy and Time ( Extended Abstract )

Timed coordination is an important issue in the developement of multi-agent systems. However, introducing a formalism for modelling time and achieving coordination while respecting the autonomy of the agents is still a challenge. This paper describes a formalism for a timed coordination mechanism which conciliates the “free thinking”of an agent.

Future Intent to Run and Running Performance of Students Exposed to a Traditional versus an Autonomy Supportive Motivational Running Program

Background. The study's primary purpose was to investigate whether an autonomy supportive motivational climate in a running program would increase future running intent among high school students. A secondary purpose was to examine whether the program would increase individual performance in the Cooper 12-minute run. Methods. Students participated in a 4-month running intervention program which...

Using Interval Petri Nets and Timed Automata for Diagnosis of Discrete Event Systems (DES)

A discrete event system (DES) is a dynamic system that evolves in accordance with the abrupt occurrence, at possibly unknown irregular intervals, of physical events. Because of the special nature of these systems, different tools are currently used for their analysis, design and modeling. The main focus of this paper is the presentation of a new modeling approach of Discrete Event Systems. The ...

Effect of Using Image-Schemas on Learning L2 Prepositions and Enhancing Learner Autonomy: A Dynamic System Theory and Cognitive Linguistics-Inspired Approach

This study investigated the effect of applying the dynamic system theory (DST) and cognitive linguistics (CL) insights into grammar instruction on EFL learners’ learning of English prepositions and learner autonomy. Sixty Iranian EFL learners at the lower-intermediate level of language proficiency were randomly assigned to 1 experimental and 1 control group. The 2 groups filled out an autonomy ...

Multi-Agent Model of Manufacturing Systems

The paper presents a multi-agent system for modeling the manufacturing process in a job-shop, in which agents are the basic processing entities. The agent characteristics are inspired by the Petri nets model and permit describing features to be found in untimed, timed, and colored Petri nets. The agents have a degree of autonomy, are reactive and pro-active. This allows decision to be distribut...
